Rural Arisings were appointed by the Chevening Trust to devise a scheme to enhance the Parkland setting of the nationally important historic Chevening Estate by hiding the view of the M25. The Trust’s aspiration was to create an open parkland character consistent with the appearance of the historic landscape surrounding Chevening House. Enhancements to the estate including the extent of the Parkland surrounding the main house had been progressing over centuries. The site is in the south-eastern Quadrant of the Estate and is the final area to be converted from the current arable farmland into Parkland.
The chosen option was to create gently raised landforms, naturally contoured and planted to respond to local landscape character. The design includes a new water body as a focal point to the landscape and a number of small ponds, ditches, swales and wetland areas to add visual interest and to provide additional wildlife habitat. There will be extensive areas of grassland, providing pasture for grazing cattle. The scheme will open up attractive views across the landscape to the Sevenoaks Ridge and North Downs.
We are responsible for managing the entire project including detailed surveys, ground investigation, design, public consultation/liaison, submission of the planning application and construction of the earthworks.
